Tomorrow Last Day To Buy METRO Day Pass

January 30, 2008

The next stage of METRO’s rollout to a new fare system starts tomorrow, Thursday, January 31, 2008 - the last day the agency will sell Day Passes and other magnetic passes.

Customers will have until March 31, 2008, to use up money on their existing passes or transfer the balance to a Q Card.
Transfers can be made at METRO’s downtown RideStores.

METRO is restructuring its fare system to simplify what has been a complex web of fare items. Other goals are to make it more equitable for all patrons and to keep fare revenues on track with rising costs, including fuel costs that have nearly tripled since FY 2003.

After March 31, 2008, there will be just two ways to pay – Q Card and cash.

With a Q card, patrons receive free transfers and five free trips for every 50 paid trips.

Free transfers will not be available for cash purchases.

And, METRO’s base fare remains $1 – one of the lowest in the country.

METRO is encouraging customers with questions about the Q Card to call 713-635-4000.
