Professional Standards
METRO takes pride in the duties and services performed by the METRO Police. The Department accepts nothing
less than the highest degree of integrity from our officers. Toward that end, the Professional Standards Section
serves the Department with insuring its officers are performing in a safe, courteous manner, and engaging in proper
conduct at all times.
It is important that citizens are aware of Departmental complaint and notification procedures, and are treated with fairness and respect. It is often only through such notification that the Department is made aware of possible policy infractions.
Disagreements over the validity of a traffic ticket or arrest do not constitute a valid complaint. These should be resolved in the proper court, with any evidence you may have. Specific wrong doing or abusive treatment by the officer during a traffic stop or arrest is a valid complaint and will be fully investigated.
You may request a formal written investigation or an informal supervisory investigation for quality control. These are the primary ways you may submit a complaint to the METRO Department of Public Safety:
- Make your written complaint in person at METRO Police Department, 810 N. San Jacinto St., Houston, TX 77002, during regular business hours.
- Send your complaint via email to Professional Standards Sgt. Mark Tymniak, MT04@ridemetro.org, or call his office directly at (713) 615-6487.
- Mail your written notarized complaint to METRO Police Department, attn: Sgt. Mark Tymniak, 810 N. San Jacinto, Houston, TX 77002.
- Utilize the online form
Complaints requiring an investigation beyond quality control (informal supervisory inquiry) will require the citizen to complete a written notarized complaint. You may utilize any of these methods above to initially contact the agency, but may be requested to complete a notarized formal complaint depending on the severity of the problem.
