articles. This information is intended to provide helpful
information for customers
who have lost an article or pass on a METRO vehicle.

Providing quality service to our customers is one of METRO's most important goals. Customers wishing to inquire about a lost article or pass should contact:

Before exiting the vehicle, check your seat and surroundings for items which may have fallen or dropped.
- Keep bags, purses and large items with you at all times.
- Note the four-digit vehicle number each time you travel.
- Register your METRO Q® Fare Card. Think of registering your card as a personal balance protection plain in case your Card is lost or stolen. You may register your METRO Q® Fare Card, via mail or by calling our help desk at 713-635-4000.

Q. When can I get my article back?
Recovered articles must be transferred from each vehicle and follow a specific process until received by METRO's Lost & Found (typically one day after the loss). However, it may take several days before an item is received. Please note that not all lost items are recovered.
For urgent or high dollar items such as medications or laptop computers, the Lost & Found staff will attempt to locate the items, so that they may be quickly secured. Your patience is appreciated as this process does take time.
Q. What does METRO need to know?
In order to save you time, please be prepared to provide the following information when contacting METRO about a lost article or pass:
LOST ARTICLES:
Item Description: color, size, contents, and distinguishing characteristics
Vehicle Information: route number, vehicle number, and seat location on vehicle
When Lost: date and time
Q. How do I claim my lost article?
Owners wishing to claim an article are asked to appear in person at METRO's Lost & Found Department located at 1900 Main St.
We receive a large number of items, and many of them look the same. To ensure that the rightful owner receives his or her property, METRO requires all owners to do the following:
- Provide a detailed description of the item and/or any contents prior to viewing the item, with the date and route item was lost.
- Valuables such as cell phones or pagers may require serial number, stored or dialed number verification, or proof of purchase to positively determine ownership.
- Provide proof of identity such as a Driver's License or Work ID.
- Complete the Lost & Found Claim Form and Lost Article Tag confirming receipt of the item.
Q. I can't pick up my item. What do I do?
METRO's Lost & Found Department is located Downtown at 1900 Main St. For special situations where the owner is unable to appear in person, we offer the following:
Owner Authorizes Another to Pick Up the Item
The owner completes and faxes or mails the "Owner Authorized Agent Pick Up" form to METRO's Lost & Found.
Owner Authorizes METRO Lost & Found to Mail the Item
The owner is responsible for the cost of mailing any articles The owner completes and faxes or mails the "Authorization to Mail Article" form to METRO's Lost & Found Contact METRO's Lost & Found to request the appropriate forms.
Q. Can I be reimbursed for a lost item or METRO Q® Fare Card?
METRO is not responsible for items left on the vehicle and is unable to consider reimbursement for items not turned in to METRO personnel.
Q. How long does METRO hold items?
Unclaimed Lost & Found items are considered abandoned property as outlined in the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures, Article 1817. This code requires METRO to hold items for a period of 30 days from the date of receipt by Lost & Found. Articles estimated to be worth $500 or more are kept for 60 days
Q. Where do unclaimed items go?
Due to space restrictions, after the 30 or 60 day hold period, items in good, usable condition are donated to area charities. All personal items are destroyed. Damaged items or perishables are disposed of. Cash and items of significant value such as computers, watches, etc are subject to Texas Code of Criminal Procedures, Article 1817 [332a] and are disposed of by METRO Police through the Harris County court system.
